Cybele is one of the most revered goddesses of the ancient Greek pantheon. She is the Mother of gods and all living things, who revives the dead nature and gives fertility. She is the mistress of mountains, forests, and animals. Cybele has an image of a magnificently dressed matron with a towering crown on her head. She sits on a high-backed throne with a lion cub on her lap. She holds a phial in his right hand and a tympanum (drum) in her left hand. Terracotta statuettes were dedicated to the gods. Ancient Greeks placed sculptures in temples, sanctuaries, on home altars, as well as in graves behind the head, near the hands or feet of the deceased.
