Description

This ring is from the burial of a noble Scythian woman. There were six such ornaments on her hands: four on the right and three on the left. In addition she was dressed in a luxurious suit, embroidered with numerous gold plaques, a massive gold hryvna was around her neck as a symbol of the nobility. Rings of this type were in demand among wealthy noble Scythian women, they were found in many female burials of Scythia. This jewelry was made from gold, by the method of cutting from one plate: a shield and a bracket. The shields of some were additionally decorated by soldered plate with relief image, this ring has a figure of a lying lion. The ring is one of the most common types of jewelry in the 4-3 centuries BCE in the Northern Black Sea region.
