Embroidery Fragment

This is a fragment of embroidered edge (lyshtva) belonging to a tablecloth or sheet made of thin linen. The embroidery is made with dark cherry silk and metallic gold threads. The rectangular shape of the product is indicated by the preserved part, where the strip of the ornament turns at a right angle. The embroidery composition consists of a stylized image of a pomegranate in cross and longitudinal dissection, carnation flowers and leaves. Similar motifs are the result of ethno-cultural contacts with the art of eastern countries – Persia and Armenia, from where a large number of embroideries, fabrics and carpets arrived to Ukraine.
