Description

Höpfners Radierung aus dem Jahre 1925 nimmt Bezug auf das Gedicht (1853) von Joseph Victor von Scheffel, welches sich wiederum auf eine wahre Begebenheit des 17. Jahrhunderts stützt und in der Folgezeit in unterschiedlichsten Genres rezipiert wurde (u. a. Oper 1884, Stummfilm 1918).
Die Arbeit zeigt den Trompeter in einer Tracht des 17. Jahrhunderts, rechts die von ihm begehrte Dame in Gestalt eines Engels.

Die Arbeit ist rechts original "W. Höpfner" signiert und mit der Datierung "25" versehen, links der Bildtitel.
Unten links außerdem die später nachgetragene Nummer des Werkverzeichnisses "89" ("87" gestrichen).
