Halsgeigen wurden in der Frühen Neuzeit für die Durchführung von
Ehrenstrafen eingesetzt. Dieses Exemplar stammt wahrscheinlich aus dem späten
18. bis frühen 19. Jahrhundert, ob es jemals zum Einsatz kam ist nicht bekannt. Laut einem Eintrag der Inventarliste von 1990 stammt dises Objekt aus dem Rathaus des Brettener Ortsteils Ruit.
