The so-called double situla (situla, Lat. = bucket with carrying handle), two barrel-like vessels joined together by handles, belongs typologically to the Listata pottery, which probably originated in the area along the Ofanto valley, the present-day border between the Apulian provinces of Foggia and Bari. This pottery, named after the horizontal decorative bands, is a further development of the 'South-Daunian' and at the same time marks the end of the indigenous South-Italian pottery. It is followed by purely Greek vessel forms and painting techniques in the South Italian vessel repertoire. (AVS)
