Description

Anders als beim Schuppentier besteht der Panzer des Gürteltieres aus Knochenmaterial. Dabei sind die feinen Knochenplättchen von dünner Haut überzogen. Dies bringt trotz fester „Rüstung" Beweglichkeit. Die Wirbelsäule und der Panzer sind nicht wie bei Schildkröten miteinander verwachsen.
