Pressglas hat naturgemäß eine stumpfere Oberfläche und weichere Konturen als geschliffenes Glas. Gleeichzeitig wurde bei der Formgebung oftmals teures, mundgeblasenesn und geschliffenes Glas imitiert.
Industriell hergestelltes Pressglas gibt es etwa seit Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts.
