Description

Porträt Martin Luthers stehend als Halbfigur im Halbprofil vor einem dunklen Hintergrund. Die Figur ist in Gelehrtenkleidung des 16. Jahrhunderts gewandet. Der linke Arm ist angewinkelt und zeigt ein in der linken Hand liegendes, zugeschlagenes Buch (Bibel). Am unteren Rand des Bildes befindet sich ein weißes Feld mit einer Majuskel-Inschrift, die nicht komplett erhalten ist und an den seitlichen Rändern teilweise durch den Rahmen verdeckt wird: „D MARTINVS LVTHERVS ISLEBV [1]431 IBIDEM OBDORMIENS 1549 […]VIT ANNOS63 M[?]ENSIS FEBRVRV[…]“
Der Rahmen ist verstaubt und verschmutzt (unter anderem durch weiße Farbkleckse) und durch Wurmfraß beschädigt. Die Metallklemmen geben dem Gemälde keinen festen Halt im Rahmen.
Es ist unbekannt, wer dieses Bild gemalt hat und wann es entstanden ist.
