Description

For centuries the tribes of Southeastern Tanzania have danced in secret. They developed cultures of unique performing arts, vibrate music, and elaborate masquerades hidden from the eyes of the world until now. The MaKuYa festival is an annual event for the preservation and promotion of the tradition performing arts and culture of the Makonde, the Makua and the Yao tribes in the Mtwara region. This DVD highlights some of the rich diversity of dance to be found at MaKuYa, and background information on the costumes, masks, drums and performance traditions.
