Description

Oberschädelfragment eines Nothosaurus Giganteus aus der Triaszeit (vor 180-225 Mio. Jahren). Er lebte in flachen Meeresbecken und konnte eine Länge von bis zu sechs Metern erreichen. Das Reptil war von krokodilartiger Gestalt mit einem langen biegsamen Hals, der in einem schmalen Schädel mündete. Das im lippischen Alverdissen bei Barntrup gefundene Schädelfragment zeigt deutlich die für diese Art charakteristischen Knochenspangen der langgezogenen Schläfengruben.
