Das Medaillon zeigt den Kopf des Dichters und Staatsministers Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) im Profil nach links mit Brustansatz. Das Modell hatte Leonhard Posch nach einem Wachsrelief von Gerhard Kügelgen hergestellt. Bei diesem Exemplar handelt es sich vermutlich um einen Guss der Sayner Hütte. Auf der Rückseite ist die Inschrift "Goethe" zu erkennen. Außerdem verfügt das Medaillon über eine Aufhängeöse.
