The gem shows a picture on the front and back. - Obverse: Half-length portrait of the young Commodus (3rd boy's portrait, "Princeps iuventutis-type", type Capitol, after Zanker). Head in profile, bust with armour and paludamentum obliquely from behind. Curly hair on head, brow finely dotted. - Reverse: Iuppiter seated obliquely on eagle; lower body with mantle in profile, also the bearded head. In one hand the sceptre, in the other the thunderbolt. Eagle standing in crotch position in opposite direction. Baseline. - Flat on both sides, obverse with narrow sloping rim, edge bevelled to the reverse.
