Die Vorstellungen zur Gebirgsbildung beruhten in der Zeit als August Sieberg diese schematische Darstellung malte vorwiegend auf der Annahme von vertikal orientierten tektonischen Prozessen. Heute ist bekannt, dass zusätzlich mit sehr starker, horizontal wirkender Tektonik gerechnet werden muss.
