Galvanoplastic replica of one of the most famous pieces from the shaft tombs of Mycenae (Tomb V) is the 'Death Mask of Agamemnon' named by Heinrich Schliemann after Homer. It is one of a total of five masks found in tomb round A. They covered the heads of the dead. However, their very individual appearing features are certainly not to be regarded as portrait-like.
The replica belongs to the "unrestored" variant in Gilliéron's offer. (AVS)
Original: gold plate, chased, Late Helladic I (1580-1530 BC); Athens, Nat.-Mus.
