Description

Das Hermelin oder Große Wiesel weist bei uns in Mitteleuropa einen deutlichen Saisondimorphismus auf. Tiere im Winterfell sind ganz weiß, Tiere im Sommerfell haben einen braunen Rücken und ein weißes Bauchfell. Lediglich die Schwanzspitze ist immer schwarz - diese unterscheidet das Hermelin auch immer deutlich von allen anderen einheimischen Mardern. Der Fellwechsel ist nicht obligat. Südeuropäische Tiere tragen ganzjährig Sommerfell, nordeuropäische ganzjährig Winterfell. Zahnformel: I 3/3, C 1/1, P 3/3, M 1/2 x 2 = 34.
