The double drone bagpipes known from folk tradition spread in the 18th century. It was adopted through the Slovaks from the Poles or some Southern Slav ethnic group. Finally, the most developed type, the Southern Hungarian Plain Bagpipe complete with a bent drone and bellows, emerged among the rising peasantry in the 19th century.
