Museum August Kestner Vessel ceramics and vase painting

Vessel ceramics and vase painting

About the collection

An essential part of the collection of Antiquities is the vascular ceramics. It spans a period from the Aegean Bronze Age around 2500 BC to the late Roman Imperial period. Culturally and geographically, it represents a spectrum between the region of the eastern Mediterranean with products from Cyprus or Crete and the Roman bright clay pottery from the west of the Roman Empire.
A special focus is Greek vase painting from the period between the end of the 6th century BC from Attica and the Great Greek production centres on Sicily and in Lower Italy of the 3rd century BC.
