Description

Diese fossile Spinne aus dem Oberkarbon wurde 1990 in der Nähe von Chemnitz gefunden, im sächsischen Oelsnitz. Es stellt den Holotypus von Pycnotarbus verrucosus Daber dar, ist also das bei der Beschreibung einer neuen Art „typische“ Individuum, sozusagen das „Urmeter“.

Bei der wissenschaftlichen Grabung in Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf (2008 bis 2011) wurde ein fossiles Spinnentier entdeckt, das dem Objekt stark ähnelt. Dieses stammt aus dem Perm, ist also einige Millionen Jahre jünger. Neben Riesentausendfüßern, Skorpionen und Riesenlibellen bevölkerten also auch Spinnen den Versteinerten Wald von Chemnitz.
