The 2nd century BC belongs to an epoch known as Hellenism. It is the time when, as a result of the conquests of Alexander the Great (356-323 BC), large parts of the Near East came into contact with the Greek culture of the Mediterranean region. For their part, Asian empires such as Parthia had coins minted whose images make the cultural touches clear: Greek and local Parthian influences can be found together on the coins. (SV)
