"David de Gonville Bromhead was born on 16 September 1944. He is the son of Lt.-Col. Edmund de Gonville Hosking Bromhead and Joan Winifred Scott. He married Susan Fyson, daughter of Lt.-Cdr. Richard Furley Fyson, on 10 October 1970. He was educated at St. Andrew's College, Grahamstown, Cape Province, South Africa. He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England. He held the office of Equerry to HRH Prince of Wales between 1982 and 1984. He was appointed Lieutenant, Royal Victorian Order (L.V.O.) in 1984. He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1988. He was appointed Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.)
