Jacques de la Faille (1548-1615)

"Jacques de la Faille had commanded the ninth division of the Antwerp People’s Militia. Alessandro Farnese’s Spanish army forced him to flee the city, which soon fell to the invaders. De la Faille took his family to Haarlem, and worked in his father’s shipping firm. He had Goltzius engrave this, and a matching portrait of his wife, to demonstrate their continuing wealth and political stature.
