Description

Goya titled a trial proof of the composition “Disparate puntual” (Precise Folly) – a fitting title for the impossible feat the young woman performs here with such breezy nonchalance. Or is the audience in the dark auditorium falling for a visual illusion? Is the dazzlingly lit performance a trick and the horse, seemingly balancing on a tightrope, actually standing firmly on the floor of the arena? Goya leaves this open. In any case, he conjures a utopian moment in which human existence seems effortless. (TD 2024, translation Büro LS Anderson, Berlin)
