Description

Stemming from Goya himself, the title aptly describes the most complex and chaotic composition of the series. The print shows a disparate group of bizarre figures huddled together in a dense mass. We can make out a litter of kittens being worshipped by a kneeling old couple and a hermit-like old man immersed in his book beneath the tumultuous scrum as if in a cave. These motifs turn the human and animal jumble into a parody of religious rites and rituals. (TD 2024, translation Büro LS Anderson, Berlin)
