Biography
Painter and print publisher and dealer in Antwerp. Plates lettered as Martinus Petrus (or Petri, in genitive). Entered the Guild of St Luke in 1525/6, and dean on five occasions between 1533 and 1559 (sharing position with Hans Liefrinck), died c.1566. Married 1534, publishing from 1540. Had a particular interest in French and Italian art, with plates after Primaticcio and others, and hence with Flemish Italianising artists. Republished almost all the plates of Lucas van Leyden, as well as others.
